AcreetionOS is an Arch-based, desktop-oriented Linux distribution that aims to be user-friendly, approachable and stable. It has a policy of holding back new packages for a week of testing to provide a buffer against potential upstream issues. It uses the popular Calamares installer with sensible defaults to get a working system up and running quickly. The preferred desktop environment of AcreetionOS is Cinnamon, but an alternative image with the GNOME desktop is also available.
To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
Colour scheme:green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

This is an interesting distro based on Arch, i love what the team behind it has done, without hesitate i will recommend it, specially to the coming huge wave of new users coming to linux after Windows 10 final days. It's Arch, depurated to avoid conflicts and works perfectly well out of the box.
Definitely this one of the best user-focused alternative to Windows with Arch Linux power under the hood, ideal for those wanting a simpler, faster setup with customization ability.
Gamers, programmers, graphic designers, regular users. Go ahead guys.

Installation went fine, it took a couple of tries to get it to boot from the thumb drive but it went through finally, and the installer did fine (its calamares, so...). But on the first boot, the menu was missing most of the entries. No browser at all, and when I try to install it from pacman, it just would not get through the dependencies. There was no setup center, no anything really. The things I had selected in the calamares installer were not installed. I had also configured it to boot straight in without the login manager, but it did not obey that either. I like the idea of this project, I like what they are doing as far as I can tell, but when you can't even bring up a browser it's not worth the effort. I will be keeping an eye on this project, I just don't think it's ready yet for prime time, but once they work out some of the bugs I think it will be a great distro. I'm giving it a four because it did install and boot, and because I think it has promise.
