AnduinOS

Last Update: 2026-02-08 01:17 UTC

AnduinOS is an Ubuntu-based distribution which provides a GNOME desktop which has been themed and styled to resemble Windows 11. The project provides a smaller ISO file than its parent with each supported language split into a separate ISO. Snap support, which is included in Ubuntu, has been removed from AnduinOS.

Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Color me impressed. This is one of the snappiest non-arch based distros I've encountered. Helluva nice job done on theming gnome to make it more approachable. Smart choice of software, preconfigured with flathub (thank you!) and generally just well thought out. Install was a breeze, firefox is snappy and I'm super impressed. Great job guys. Also super impressed with how snappy the system runs from USB. At first boot, it felt like it was running from my drive already. really well done, I highly recommend giving it a go

I tested to install this distro inside VirtualBox yesterday. The installation is very smooth. After installation, the OS is very stable. I like it more than any Linux distro. It doesn't contain any bloatware. It is very clean with minimum and essential softwares. The interface is very clean too. I like the UI compared to original Gnome but sometimes the screen redraw is feeling like a bug but I assume it is because I am running it in a virtual machine. The only complain I have is X11 is removed in this version and my B4J IDE which depends on JavaFX doesn't render correctly under Wine. I reinstall version 1.3.9 and get back the Xorg session in login screen. The older version can run my B4J IDE and JavaFX app much better. I may consider to use this as a daily driver and get rid of Windows 11 but for now, I will use version 1.3.9 or the LTS version. Lastly, I hate to see any Linux distro remove the support of X11 and go exclusively Wayland. I used to love Debian and Ubuntu but it seems more and more distro are going for Wayland only.

I'm a new Linux user. I've tested most of the top distributions in a month... and I've settled on AndiunOS. It's well-tuned, looks good, and is easy to upgrade to. I'd love to find something to complain about, but it's hard to find any downsides. Kernel version 6.17, a huge software base (after all, it's an Ubuntu/Debian base), and Nvidia driver installation is a breeze. I highly recommend it for new users and those switching from Windows; there's no better distribution to start with... polished and stable.
