Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Extremely fast and highly compatible. Im using it 4 of my older PCs including a core2 duo macbook, AMD BE2350 HP desktop, Acer Netbook, and as Virtual machine in my i7 Hp desktop. It's my goto OS now Ive tried at least 30 linux distros this is still the best. I am apparently a debian person and this is one lightest and by far fastest distros with actual rock solid stability.

The best by far, my thanks to the creators and maintainers !

I tried Hydrogen and was very disappointed with the high RAM usage. But they appear to have gotten it right with Helium!

BunsenLabs is probably the best Openbox distribution that any user could install, the ease of Debian coupled with the simplicity of Openbox. BL is much like CrunchBang, same snappy behavior but it stops there with BL's own unique looks and configuration.

BL is very much a community-driven distro, open forum discussions of potential changes for a new release. Personally enjoy the conky thread, timt2 as well.

CrunchBang was my first distro after leaving Windows, highly recommend BunsenLabs for anyone who wants to make that jump to Debian. That is a nice aspect of BL and Openbox, simple to learn and custom configuring is an option as one's knowledge base improves. Highly recommend BL for the new person to Linux.

Cons: Systemd

Very sophisticated distribution, with each release BunsenLabs, finds ways to make it even better.
