CROWZ is a lightweight, Devuan-based Linux distribution. The project offers three graphical window managers: Openbox, Fluxbox, and JWM. CROWZ can be run from live media or installed to a hard drive using the Calamares system installer.
To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
Colour scheme:green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

A very nice and compact linux distro. we installed it on our dell wyse 3040 (2gb ram, 8gb emmc). after installing and updating (apt update and apt dust-upgrade) the system only took up about 4gb/8gb available storage. one of the smallest distros that is fully uefi capable we have seen. only criticisms is that the install script was somewhat hard to find. it was not on the desktop like in some distros. we found it under the file manager -> applications -> system tools then just had to double click it and from there it was very easy with the calmares installer.
we used the fluxbox variant and the desktop experience is also very good. hardly uses any system resources (cpu and ram) and is very customizable thanks to the desktop. wifi also worked out of the box with a intel wifi card. if you are looking for a very small storage space linux distro that supports uefi and has a very good desktop experience, this is a great choice!

Only giving this a one because the install could not start, my usb keyboard had no power so they didn't have compatible usb drivers in the installer so I could choose live or liveram or anything. I know this because I tapped the cap lock and number lock keys and no lights on the keyboard lit up. Huge mistake not having a small driver for a mouse, reminds me of linux from the late 90's where no mouse or keyboard drivers worked when I tried an install. I have low expectations for this distro if they did not try installs on various different pc's since the programmer must have been using a ps2 mouse/keyboard to have this huge oversight, like just ask a friend to install it and test it out or a relative.

Crowz has been unprofessionally compared to a DE Desktop Environment (DE) while it's a Window Manager (WM), however a very good one without the bloat and weight of many so called light weight distribution regardless if it's a WM or DE. All three WM, Openbox, Fluxbox, and JWM are some of the best and long term favorites.
The best attributes of Crowz is the small size, of less than 900 mbs. Just enough of proven applications to get a new user up and running. Theming and icons are hand selected for size, and yet full enough to do the job. Either light or dark themed, it only takes a few seconds to chose between the dark and light.
I'm not a fan of Firefox-esr, or Google Chrome, but that is largely a users choice and discretion., think the author and dev does what he thinks is best and provides a chance to install Firefox and Chromium. Linux could use a good browser specificly for Linux that is modern and function, the lack of that is not Crowz fault.
I chose Fluxbox, a bit more "bling" than JWM or Openbox, I've used Blackbox originally and never left the configurations, although Openbox is born from it. Crowz offers the best of these WM worlds of simplicity and a tweak heaven.
Crowz is simply one of the best distro's I have ever installed, and I've installed hundreds. It's a pleasure to have it as a daily driver.
