 I appreciate a well-configured Openbox desktop, and Mabox Linux delivers exactly that. It's been my main and only operating system for over five years now, running daily on an older laptop (Core i5-2430M, 8GB RAM). Mabox breathes new life into this machine, but it's not just for aging hardware - it flies on modern systems too.
What I appreciate most is how thoughtfully everything is set up. The Openbox configuration strikes a nice balance between form and function - useful keyboard shortcuts, a clean tint2 panel, and the customized jgmenu system that provides a clean, organized application menu. The mabox-tools collection puts system configuration within easy reach without being overwhelming.
Performance wise, it's rock solid. Idle RAM sits under 1GB, and the customized Picom compositor keeps things smooth without getting in the way. Being rolling-release, software stays current, yet I haven't experienced a single major breakage in all these years of daily driving it.
The documentation gets the job done, but what really makes Mabox special is its community. The forum folks are genuinely welcoming and knowledgeable - ask a question, and you'll get helpful answers fast from people who actually care.
Default apps reflect a curated selection: Firefox, PCManFM, Terminator, and other thoughtfully chosen lightweight utilities. Nothing feels random or bloated. Special thanks to Napcok for creating and maintaining this gem.

If you appreciate a clean, well-configured Openbox experience, Mabox is an excellent choice.

 Mabox Linux es una distribución de Linux de origen polaco, basada en la rama estable de Manjaro y con modelo de desarrollo rolling release (actualizaciones continuas). Su característica principal es el uso del gestor de ventanas Openbox, lo que la convierte en un sistema ligero, rápido y altamente personalizable, ideal para hardware antiguo o usuarios que buscan eficiencia.

La distribución se inspira en CrunchBang Linux y utiliza herramientas propias como el Mabox Control Center para la configuración del sistema, tint2 como panel, jgmenu para menús y conky para la monitorización en el escritorio. Está disponible para sistemas de 64 bits y ofrece una experiencia minimalista que consume aproximadamente 300 MB de RAM al inicio.

Base: Manjaro (rama estable), derivada de Arch Linux.
Gestor de ventanas: Openbox.
Gestión de paquetes: pacman y Pamac (con soporte para AUR vía yay).
Estado: Estable, con la última versión estable 25.04 lanzada en abril de 2025.

Desventajas, No es para el Usuario que apenas llegan a linux,
No tiene suite ofimatica pre instalada.

Pero Todo lo demas es simplemente genial, Funciona muy, muy bien.

 Fun, Full of surprised, Easy on the eyes and dripping with character. Well featured, and opinionated in a fun way. Solid little arch distro. Running on 13 year old mid-range laptop hardware: snappy enough to use as a daily. Plays nice with the software I care about.

I Love the integrated internet radio, and random music which came pre-selected: again opinionated and very fun. The automatic themeing works very well: pulling colors from your wallpaper and applying them systemwide are a breeze. Favorite in a while
