Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I hadn't used Manjaro since it's early days, when there was a tiny team of devs maintaining it. Back then, a major breakage was expected about every 6 months, due to the differences between it & Arch proper.
Well, I'd gone back to an Ubuntu Budgie, from Antergos after yet another massive breakage, because the devs just aren't interested anymore, but got bored.
Everytime, you do a major update on Arch proper, or derivative using the repos, there's always a moment when hold your breath and wonder if you're gonna be spending a couple of hours fixing things. No such problems with Manjaro.
I really didn't wanna go through an Arch proper install(done that geek right of passage years ago)so seeing as Manjaro had worked it's way up to #2 on Distrowatch, I'll give another go.
What can I say? An absolutely fantastic compromise between, having a rolliing release keeping things up to date and stability.
One year now, fantastic

I’ve tried Mint, Lite, Peppermint, MX-Linux, Sparky, Antergos, and Netrunner just to name a few distros. Manjaro is what I keep coming back to. It’s not the perfect distro (there isn’t one) but it edges out all the others that I’ve tried on laptops. It’s fast. It’s complete. It’s flexible. It’s up to date. And it has a large helpful community.

First off let me say that I am a distro hopper because I enjoy examining new distros. That said, while I really like Manjaro and have installed it many times, it always seems to get tangled up when installing system updates eventually and I delete the whole mess. I suspect that the reason for my update problems is that I do not use the installed Manjaro system on a daily basis and so do not update in a timely manner. I think that it would be a beautiful release for someone to install and use on a daily basis. In other words I like the concept of a rolling release but do not think its appropriate for a distro hopper.
