NixOS is an independently developed GNU/Linux distribution that aims to improve the state of the art in system configuration management. In NixOS, the entire operating system, including the kernel, applications, system packages and configuration files, are built by the Nix package manager. Nix stores all packages in isolation from each other; as a result there are no /bin, /sbin, /lib or /usr directories and all packages are kept in /nix/store instead. Other innovative features of NixOS include reliable upgrades, rollbacks, reproducible system configurations, source-based model with binaries, and multi-user package management. Although NixOS started as a research project, it is now a functional and usable operating system that includes hardware detection, KDE as the default desktop, and systemd for managing system services.

 It has been said that this distribution has a steep learning curve, but ironically, this is true mainly for advanced users, such as developers. For common usage, it is sufficient to list the desired packages in a single configuration file, and the system will rebuild itself and stay up-to-date, providing an unprecedented level of stability over time. The software repository is extensive, and the package manager nix can be reliably used with any Linux distribution, offering a robust and well-designed alternative to other distro-agnostic package managers like Flatpak or Snap. In case of issues after an update, rolling back to a previous 'generation' of the system is straightforward. Just remember to run the garbage collector periodically to free up disk space by removing very old versions of packages!

 This system is not like other distributions. But talk about its complexity is greatly exaggerated. There is a lot of information on the Internet about how to install and remove packages, how to configure gpu, how to start and stop services via configuration.nix. Of course, I would like all this information to be collected in a wiki. But if information on solving a problem cannot be found on the Internet, friendly discourse.nixos.org forum users come to the rescue. As for me, the system just works now.

 full excelente. excellent project, iexcellent project, it is worth supporting it, its declarative form seems to me an excellent idea of control for the system, its very updated packages, I have been using NixOS for several months and I am very satisfied, and although I am not a programmer, I know it has a learning curve but still, it gives me the ease of building the operating system to my liking, only with what I need it without unnecessary processes and without so much wear and tear and very functional,,, in addition to the ease and variety of choosing and modifying the different environments, I think it is important to support projects like these,
