OpenMediaVault is a Network-Attached Storage (NAS) solution based on Debian GNU/Linux. It contains services like SSH, (S)FTP, SMB/CIFS, DAAP media server, rsync, BitTorrent and many more. Thanks to a modular design it can be enhanced via plugins. OpenMediaVault is primarily designed to be used in home environments or small home offices, but is not limited to those scenarios. It is a simple and easy-to-use out-of-the-box solution that will allow everyone to install and administrate a Network-Attached Storage without deeper knowledge.

 Easy for home use.
Very flexible and great functionality with minimal requirements.

 Using a stable Debian base line mixed with some custom control code
= lovely stable free NAS platform.

Its not perfect:

1. Weird python errors when doing apt-get updates
2. LVM management - cant create more than one volume group (odd decision)
3. Network config - Interfaces renaming is especially irritating due to debian stretch and many other newer distros to use the new systemd naming convention - meaning old jessie was like eth0,eth1, now use enps30 etc
Of course the clever guy at openmediavault has created a omv-firstaid cli to rename from shell if all goes pear shaped.

What i like the most:

Set and forget approach. Makes creating RAID set etc a breeze, Sharing files is also logical and streamlined - NFS and CIFS.

OMV extras - Tons of third party addons that make it even better!

Great work!
Highly recommended for a free NAS solution!
