Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I've been using this distro for quite a while now and absolutely love it. A few pros/cons:

pros:

light on resources
sandboxed already
has a "Home" flavor with no hack tools included
it's beautiful and stable
encryption option
security flavor has a ton of useful tools

Cons:

firewall/antivirus with it would be nice but not a dealbreaker for me
Included Nvidia drivers didn't work with my card (but with a little elbow grease I found a driver that worked)

Runs really, really well on an old T3500 Xeon with SSD and 16GB ram. I often run Whonix on it with no issues whatsoever. I've tried several other distros like Kodachi, Kali, Heads, Tails, etc... but absolutely none come even close to this distro.

I like this distro, but why doesn't come with a firewall pre- installed?

Actually I am using 4.3 still but plan to upgrade to 4.4 soon. Time issue as I have Parrot co-installed on several laptops with MX-Linux. Funny but it seems I am not the only reviewer who likes that combination.

I've been using the non-hacker tools versions for about two years currently branded under 'Home Edition". What do I like most in the home edition? The privacy tools to surf with greater freedom, to do research without something easily following me about tracking me.

You don't have to be a hacker, or even an aspiring hacker to use Parrot. You just have to be a person who wants to try to hang on to their privacy on the internet. I absolutely love the option to flip the mac address. All devices have a mac address, it is like a social security number burned into the machine - digital DNA.

So if you like privacy and find the thought of flipping your digital DNA pleasing when you surf, give this distro a try. It works nicely live from DVD or even as an ISO on a special booting USB key I have. It installs easily to a hard disk.

I also find Parrot light on resources from boot up to internet surfing and that is nice too, especially for older machines.

When I discovered Parrot, I stopped using TAILS.

You can use Parrot as a regular linux distro if you prefer and turn on the privacy tunneling on a need only basis.,
