Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "kdelibs" and "plasma-desktop" packages and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I have been running Kali for about 2 years on my current desktop. Haven't had any problems in the past with it on other machines, but there a few pieces of hardware it doesn't get along with on this one very well. Things I've just put up with as they did not effect what I used Kali for.
Most notably my Radeon graphics card, drops the second monitor for no apparent reason and sound via HDMI to my monitors won't work. If I need sound, not usually for what I am doing, I can plug in a USB speaker and it works fine. It doesn't recognize my PCI-e Broadcom WiFi. Again no big deal, I use a TP-Link for testing,
Every few months or so it will die during an update and I have to re-install.
This time I decided to install Parrot instead.
I am glad I did. The Calamares Install wouldn't work, but the standard GTK installer from grub worked fine. Almost. The grub it installed wouldn't let me boot any of my other Linux OSes properly. Fortunately I was able to get in terminal mode on one and grub-install. I also needed to fix fstab on all of them because it insisted on formating the swap partition, changing its UUID.
Minor problems in the big scheme.
It is beautiful, but too much redundancy between the top and bottom panel. Yeah, I'll fix that, but they could have done that out of the box.
The reason I will stay with it is because all the little hardware issues of Kali, are gone. All my hardware works perfectly now, just like it does in all my other Linux OSes.
It has all the same tools, and at least the 5 I've tested so far, work exactly the same. No learning curve. So it'd like before but with a few little extra bonuses. Good job Parrot crew.
