Probably the oldest actively maintained FreeBSD based firewall tailored distribution. The UI has been rewritten for Bootstrap and it's very modern and fast. Everything is Web GUI based and you never have to go to command line, if that's your thing.

Very advance feature sets, but not a lot of wizards to help set up certain networking scenarios like some of the more consumer focused routers; if you are a power user or MSP this is a great firewall distribution. I recommend this distro and their hardware to people that want a powerful firewall and know a thing or two about networking and computers.

Hardware requirements are getting a bit strict, but Negate is targeting a more serious enterprise market. Make sure you have an amd64 based CPU and future releases will require AES-NI.

Another good alternative would be OPNsense which supports amd64, i386, and won't require AES-NI. You can also get OPNsense hardware.

Been using Pfsense for a few years already. And it works very nice. It has a Plugin called PFblockerNG which blocks all ads and other lists you add like for malware and cryptomining.
It also has a plugin for an IDS.

It is a LOT better then the normal routers out there.
