I tried out PikaOS on an old mini-pc and it was so easy to install and get up and running that I installed it on my gaming computer to try out. Not a real noticeable difference in performance based on the custom tuning I previously did on forky, but a huge difference in the amount of manual configuration I had to do. The installer was neat and clean, having to do the initial reboot before entering user info threw me off at first, but then the next reboot was right into the full system after update and optional package installation where I didn't have to worry about it once I was in a user account. I used the Niri for a while and although I liked the interface on the play computer, I ended up going with KDE Plasma on the gaming computer for ease of use for the kids who like to play there too. Overall solid performance, ease of install, ease of use, good options for desktops, and all Deb based, so a win win win. Was this review helpful? Yes No Version: 25.12.16 Rating: 9 Date: 2025-12-20 Votes: 4 I recently switched from PopOS to PikaOS to take advantage of the KDE Plasma > v6 desktop and simplified integration of asusctl + superfgxctl + Steam on a 2020 Asus G14. Everything installed without any problems. The post-installation utility is very well designed and functional! So far, it's been pretty stable to use. The only issue I had with PopOS and Plasma was that after waking from sleep or locking the session, the desktop would be completely black, requiring me to log out and log back in, so this bug may not be directly attributable to the OS. A dream comes true :D. Sure there are some hiccups, but they are NVIDIA based in my case (vrr issues). Apart from that, I am totally happy with my choice and I hope more people are joining. Debian > all ;) I would recommend KDE for newcomers with gaming focus or gnome for newcomers for everyday usage (gnome 48 still has some issues with hdr, with gnome 49, which is not packaged yet, it might get better).
