Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I wanted to select 15.5 though here.

Running 100+ systems varying from 1 few GB's memory, up to 3.5TB memory.
We also have sme RHEL systems 7/8/9 (less than 20) and about 40 Ubuntu systems.

SUSE is our favourite, then some time nothing. Then RHEL comes and in the end Ubuntu. We try to eradicate
them in favor of SLE or opensuse because the quality, stability and useablility is not as good as SLE and RHEL.

When it comes to support, SUSE is #1 here, far behind is RHEL and almost non-existant is UBUNTU LTS version.s

The installer is buggy and gives errors when selecting different package groups.

Only GNOME is available as a desktop.

If you are not in a corporate network and only want to have a workstation at home, there is no benefit in using SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop over openSUSE.

SUSE is the model enterprise distro from which all others should be measured. Out of the box it is security hardened like none of its competition and has many unique features that put it above the others like Btrfs snapshot recovery built in and Yast along with incredible stability and reliability which makes it kind of boring at times because it never breaks so you won’t be spending time fixing issues and all your time getting stuff done. I’m recently retired but have used SUSE on mainframe, power systems, and of course pc’s/laptops and it was rock solid across all platforms. I use SUSE on my home systems now along with its sister distro openSUSE which shares the same qualities and now contains all the SUSE binaries in its new release Leap 15.3 so that is a huge win for the Linux community! Thanks to the SUSE team for all your hard work, I love your software so much I just want to hug my systems, LOL.. : )
