Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

It is a very user-friendly distribution and easy to use, ideal both for people who are just starting in the Linux world and for more experienced users who are looking for a stable and well-organized system. From the very first moment, you can notice the care that has been put into the user experience, something that often makes the difference between just another distribution and one that is truly enjoyable to use on a daily basis.

One of the aspects I liked the most is the “welcome” tool, as it is very helpful during the first steps after installing the system. These types of tools make the whole process much simpler and more accessible, especially for people who are not used to manually configuring certain parts of the system. Thanks to this welcome panel, installing drivers, essential programs, and performing basic configurations becomes quick and intuitive.

In addition, having all those options organized in one place saves a lot of time. Instead of having to search through different menus or rely on complicated commands, users can find what they need in a clear and direct way. This shows that the developers have truly thought about the comfort and convenience of the people who use the distribution.

Another positive point is the sense of fluidity and stability the system provides. Everything works quite consistently, which creates confidence when using it as a main system for both work and personal use. That balance between simplicity and functionality is not always easy to achieve, and here it seems to be very well accomplished.

It is also appreciated that installing drivers is so accessible. Many times this is one of the aspects that causes the most difficulties for new Linux users, especially when it comes to graphics cards or specific hardware devices. Having a tool that simplifies this process makes the experience much more pleasant and avoids unnecessary frustration.

Regarding software installation, the fact that it can be done easily from the welcome tool or from graphical utilities is a great advantage. This allows anyone to prepare their system quickly with the applications they need, without having to spend too much time researching how to do it.

Overall, it is clear that the project is moving in a very good direction. If development continues with the same level of care and attention to detail, it will surely keep improving and gaining more users over time. Maintaining this focus on ease of use, stability, and helpful welcome tools is a very wise decision.

For all these reasons, I would just like to congratulate the team for the great work they are doing. The effort behind a distribution like this is clearly noticeable, and the result is very positive. Keep it up, because you are definitely on the right path. Greetings and congratulations on the excellent work. 🚀👏

The version I am reviewing is the Soplos "TYSON 1.0.3 Beta 1" which is the KDE PLASMA 6 version. First of all when you first start up the first thing you recognize are the very intersting color choices Orange Yellow Black and its really nice. The welcome screen to install is very easy 1 click and you get Calamares Installer which is my favorite and the easiest for new Linux users. Once installed you get the Soplos Welcome app. This app is your best friend! this app has everything. From Kernels, Drivers, Tons of Apps andthey all have descriptions of what they are which is nice. GAMERS will love this, #1 its Debian Testing so its kind of a Rolling release with some of the latest drivers. The gamer software section of the Welcome app has Everything a gamer needs. Steam, Wine, Bottles and a whole lot more. This Distribution is something you should try for yourself, i think you will be exptremely impressed. This is some professional stuff!! Good Stuff. KUDOS to the Soplos Tyson Programming team!!!!

Love that this is based on Debian Testing and love the tools. It installed with no problems with a typical Calamares installer. But as soon as I updated and rebooted, my WiFi disappeared. Network-manager is installed, and if I go into System Settings/Network my WiFi does show, but I can't log into it.
Also not a fan of having to authenticate to use my external drives. If WiFi worked, I'd do my research and figure out how to change it, but the combination of the two issues make it a Soplos a deal-breaker.

I'm using an Acer Aspire laptop
CPU: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13620H (16) @ 4.90 GHz
RAM: 16 GiB
GPU: Intel UHD Graphics @ 1.50 GHz [Integrated]

This is my first Intel laptop. I've always had AMD before. Finding way too many distros have issues with "Intel inside". Prolly won't buy another Intel.
