Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

This is a classic Redhat/Fedora distro, the way linux was meant to be. Easy, functional, fast, and powerful, with all the modern conveniences backed by retro simplicity. I love the old Gnome desktop environment, it was the best ever. This is what attracted me to Linux in the first place. The only con is that users dont love it as much as they should.

Would be exactly what I need if it wasn't for Gnome 2. With Mate, Plasma LTS and Cinnamon I don't see a need to keep Gnome2

It has everything anyone could hope for. It has a beautiful desktop, all the multimedia stuff you could need, wireless working out of the box and a bunch of tools to take care of a good complete and stable system -- and keep it that way. Plus a huge repository for all a heart could ask for. It isn't absolutely perfect, but it's more than good enough and as close to perfection anyone could wish. And since it is sans systemd it get a 10 just because it has thus become the most prefect Linux distro out there.

Of course another great benefit is the very stable, reliable and beloved Gnome 2 desktop with no plans to go to Gnome 3. I applaud the effort behind Stella and look forward to a long happy relationship. Bravo!
