Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Great distro with 1 problem, for me at least. The lack of desktop xfce right click menu is something I do not understand. Other than that, it is fast like all arch distros,

Speedy!

Quick to install, easy to install, the power and functionality of Arch along with all the benefits of bleeding-edge updates should you want them.

The SwagArch team should be proud of what they have acheived with this distro - just the right amount of software in the ISO, with no bloat that I have found.

Any downsides? Well, yes there are.

1) Not everyone will like the desktop style (somewhat Mac-like with plank and the Whisker menu location) - personally, I like it and if I didn't I could easily change it.

2) Watch your step with the 'liveuser' account that is left behind post installation - it has no password and can be root.... Simply remove the liveuser, disable the liveuser or give it a password if you want to keep it.

Give SwagArch a go - you might just like what the author is doing!

A great Arch based distro that deserves more recognition.

I mean, you can spend a day installing and configuring Arch using the wiki and scripts right? And it will run well, include all of the software that you select and might (if you're lucky) pick up your video card, wireless chipset, bluetooth adapter and soundcard - otherwise it's time to get down and dirty with scripts and pacman......

Alternatively, you could choose a 'scripted' install like Manjaro or SwagArch - I tried Manjaro and it looked good, performed well but refused to detect sound / wireless and bluetooth adapters until I 'patched' after install - around an hour on top of the ten minutes to install.

SwagArch - installed and everything apart from Bluetooth worked straight away - downloaded updates and Bluetooth sprang into life after a re-boot.

SwagArch is now my daily driver - runs well - pretty much on the bleeding-edge but, as yet, has had no issues or breakages.

Given my data is on a separate volume, if it were to break, 15 mins to re-install is probably quicker than trying to 'fix' it!

I really like Arch, but I really love SwagArch!
