I am not saying that Ubuntu need to abandons snap, but we the distro need to respect their users, and i am talking about the average users here. when I install ubuntu the first thing I do is to change and reinstall Apt application in the most used apps. if they just to this ubuntu will be great again lol Was this review helpful? Yes No Version: 25.10 Rating: 8 Date: 2025-12-24 Votes: 5 I started with Linux before Ubuntu existed, but it's no exaggeration to say that Ubuntu was the first distribution I could use as a daily driver -- some 20+ years ago. Ubuntu was the one to crack the code for Linux installation and use by normal people. Over the years, Canonical (the Ubuntu parent) has made some ... contentious ... design choices here and there. A custom desktop that in the end lost traction; a semi-proprietary packaging system (snap) that continues to divide the Linux community. But if you're looking for a distribution that is likely to install without issues on most hardware and has an unsurpassed community of experts ready to support other users, it's hard to think of anything better than Ubuntu. "I am because we are" -- the meaning of Ubuntu in the South African Xhosa language (and others in the region). Too many other tech companies have outlived their original idealism (think, "Don't be evil"). But I believe Ubuntu still takes their name to heart. Yes No Version: 24.04 Rating: 10 Date: 2025-12-21 Votes: 11 I'm using Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS for a few months now. Switched from Fedora. I had used Fedora for about a year and before Fedora I was using Manjaro for a few years. I prefer the Cinnamon Desktop on all my Linux versions. I find Cinnamon easy to personalize and it offers robust response and I can make it familiar to a MS Windows desktop. Lets face it ... most of us are familiar with using some version of Windows so the closer you can make a desktop familiar with Windows desktop the easier it is to accomplish things. I use Windows 11 at work for the IT LAN workstation use, but we also have a few Linux versions installed on various other computing systems that are not used as personal workstations but are used for product production systems, that I can expand on because I'm not allowed to and make comments on where I work online with detailed information. I will say we use a Debian Server Linux and a Ubuntu Server versions today on a few systems. I have not had any issues with Ubuntu LTS. It is a very stable Linux Version. It has not given me any comparability problems with my laptop, a Lenovo T530 with the NVIDIA Corporation GF108M [NVS 5400M] graphics card. Every software app works including Wine that I use to install eSword Bible app with. Grub Customizer works as well with Ubuntu. Ubuntu comes installed with many user friendly apps and with "Software" Gnome Project installed you can find any app you will need to use, pretty much. I will say Ubuntu is a great experience overall from my experience with Linux versions. I've been Linux hopping since the nineties when I was using Slack Ware and Redhat initially.
