KDE is really easy to customize and once you move some widgets to where you want them, it almost makes you forget you're on Linux. The only cons are not having a configured WINE setup on a fresh install, which is something distros like Nobara have done and it is very useful. Though, I've heard they are planning to add this during the next version. Anyways, this is a distro I'd recommend to even completely new users of Linux, especially those jumping from Windows. Was this review helpful? Yes No Version: 43 Rating: 10 Date: 2026-01-29 Votes: 0 Install (X1 Yoga laptop without nVidia GPU): I appreciate having 'btrfs' as the default filesystem. The new Anaconda install page is clean and simple. It feels unusual to set up the user after install has completed and you have rebooted, but that makes it nicer to set up as a new out-of-the-box experience for others. You can choose a default use of Flatpack or RPM and it explains the reasons why you'd want one over the other. Usage: The Plasma "Welcome Center" is improved and has so much useful info; it's worth looking at it. System update is clean and smooth. It detects when the laptop is in "tablet mode" and re-orients the desktop as I tilt the device. Sleep/wake works. SMB networking works. Development: Console (Konsole) is 'zsh' by default with nice, clean settings. Turn on 'Git' in Dolphin and see icons on files/folders for Git status. Yes No Version: 43 Rating: 10 Date: 2025-12-17 Votes: 7 I have used debian for years, but distro upgrades are simply a failure in my opinion. I tried pclinuxos and was not happy with the interface and lack of my favourite software. Opensuse tumbleweed lasted about a month before breaking some of my software I consider vital. So I tried a fedora based distro as opposed to a debian based or opensuse based and I have no interest in source based distros. Ultramarine ran all my desired software without snaps, appimages or flatpaks which is impressive. Then came the big test of upgrade from version 42 to 43 which crashed every time I attempted the upgrade but finally after two months it just worked in "Discover" software center and now I am looking forward to using my install for the foreseeable future. I did not expect the dist-upgrade to work at all to my satisfaction so a 2 month wait is not a significant waiting time for the bugs to be sorted out. i find Ultramarine linux removes all the tedious setting up of fedora to do what everybody does. I was missing opensuse yast but found all my ultramarine answers on the internet. Debian answers on the internet were wrong or missing for the version I used to run so this is wonderful. And though it is almost double the size of my debian buster install it also very fast to use and bluetooth headphones work better. Snappy response on internet for instance simply stunned me, it still does. Whatever the system developers are doing, YAY, keep it up. This is the best balance of speed, stability and up to date software and hardware I have found in my search. My new daily driver, which runs steam well also. Big surprise there.
