Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I've been using Yunohost for a few years now. It was my second ever attempt at setting up a home server (after ArkOS) and it worked well. It could still use some refinement in the install process (checking if ports are open, registering a domain name, checking for hairpinning issues etc), but the community is helpful and once it's running it's been stable as a rock.

I am using Y-U-No-Host(Name is meme that Why you are not hosting your own server?) since 2014. It has grown from that point now with addition of lot of services. Its the best option if you want to self-host and are privacy conscious. It saves you ton of time which you will spend on reading and deploying a professional server for yourself. On few clicks you have a industry level server setup for yourself which include email server, xmpp for chat, firewall, spam filter, webserver (nginx),DNS and you can install tons of other apps like Wordpress, Matrix chat(Voice and Video),Roundcube, Mastodon,Peertube, Couchpotato etc. I have even used it as providing services like WordPress,Nextcloud, etc to earn few bugs. The Yunohost has option to install Lets encrypt as ssl for your domains and automatically renew it when they are going to expire. It has SSO to login to all apps from single account so you can use one account for email, wordpress, nextcloud etc.

If you use it at home (not on an VPS) its a boon as being at home the speed do not depend on internet and you get super fast speed on Wifi or Lan. The apps like Dlna(streaming for smart tv), Pihole (Add blocker),Transmission(Torrents),Nextcloud(cloud),Peertube(video),Funkwhale(music),mumble(voice walki talki), etc gives you fast connectivity and professional services at your home with privacy.

The project has support for Internet cube which gives you additional ability to implement VPN and Tor browsing on a hotspot.

Onion domains can be registered on few clicks to host onion domains on TOR and Zeronet package is available to P2P browsing.

The community is very helpful though most of people speak French but always generous to speak English and help you out. I would love to see more languages added into YunoHost( so please help to add different language into Yunohost).

YunoHost is running at home as my private server, accessible from anywhere worldwide.

Setting it up wasn't obvious at first, especially since my Internet Service Provider doesn't provide me a fixed IP from outside, but some kind of semi-fixed one... The online help proved to be extremely responsive, friendly, and very professional, I awe them a few cases of beer (or any equivalent).
On several occasions, I ran into some trouble (making a FrankenDebian), and again, the online help rescued me, with a very high level of seriousness, commitment, humour and accuracy. My instance ran again, flawlessly. Kudos. And beer, again.

This server has been rolling for years, almost unattended (just a few apt update && apt dist-upgrade , from time to time), dispatching and synchronizing information worldwide for professional projects, without a hickup. Just when power went down home (and I was away, working abroad), users (colleagues at work, working worldwide with very poor Internet connection) barely experienced some lagging in their nextcloud synchronisation, without even noticing anything.

Debian stability is there, and as it is my main distro for most of my computers, maintenance of my YunoHost is just a breeze.
