Zenclora OS is a desktop Linux distribution based on Debian's "Stable" branch, featuring a customised GNOME desktop. One of its more interesting features is the integration of custom package and system management commands, such as "update" (to update the entire system), "cleanup" (to clean up the system and free up space), "install-flatpak", "install-steam", "install-chrome", "install-liquorix" (to install the Flatpak utility, Steam gaming client, Chrome browser or Liquorix kernel), and many others. It also offers quick network and system information overviews with "net-info" and "zenclora-fetch" commands. The distribution is optimised for stability and intensive daily use.
To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
Colour scheme:green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

This distribution is still in its early stages, perhaps a bit ambitious for a second release, but the intention to make things easier is clear. At the moment, it’s only available in English with the C.UTF-8 locale. In some ways, that’s an advantage since it avoids the overhead of regional settings, making the system slightly lighter. Still, in the future, broader language support would be expected, as that’s standard for modern operating systems.
As I mentioned, the goal of simplifying the user experience is evident. I really appreciated that with a single command I could install many tools that would otherwise be tedious to set up manually, such as Spotify or AI utilities. That said, I wouldn’t call the included tool a full-fledged package manager, it’s more like a convenience tool. Given that this is only the second version, there’s still a long road ahead.
The icon selection doesn’t fully convince me. It would be great if they matched the style presented on the distribution’s website something cute, more in line with the wallpapers, to create a coherent design. In my view, this would require designing new icons from scratch.
Overall, I’d rate it a 7. The intention is solid, and I enjoy having a Debian-based system stripped of unnecessary components. Of course, there are many areas that need refinement, but considering this is the work of a single developer, it’s quite impressive. With time, the distribution could evolve into a genuinely interesting proposal.
I have used many fast Linux live and installed distributions without any problems (debian, zorin, gecko, spiral, enedeavour), but this one is not mature enough for my desktop.
- No languages in the live system, only English.
- The system does not recognize the TP-LINK WN721N usb wi-fi adapter, I could not even try it. I do not have a wired network.Awfull wifi managment in the 21th centuries
- VENTOY booted this Linux in 15 minutes, PARDUS Linux in 2 minutes.
- Fujitsu Esprimo P420 Intel graphics are terribly slow.
- The programs start 3 minutes after clicking.
